Abstract

Chronic limb-threatening ischemia (CLTI) is associated with mortality, amputation, and impaired quality of life. chronic limb-threatening ischemia represents the end stage of peripheral arterial disease and is associated with a high risk of limb amputation. The aim was to assess the health needs of patients with chronic lower limb ischemia in general Port Said Hospitals. Subjects and Method: A descriptive research design was used. The study was conducted in the surgical and diabetic outpatient clinics at El-Slam general hospital and the surgical outpatient clinics at Elzohour general hospital. Subjects: A convenient sample of eighty male and female patients diagnosed with chronic lower limb ischemia was included. Data was collected using two tools: the patient assessment questionnaire (personal characteristics, patient medical and surgical history, and patient’s physical examination) and the patient health needs questionnaire. The results of the study indicated that 64.5% had inadequate exercise, 67.5% had unsatisfactory foot care, and 82.5% had an unhealthy diet. Most of the studied patients had unsatisfactory exercise, foot care, and an unhealthy diet. Conclusion: The study concluded that health needs of patients with chronic lower limbs ischemic disease are exercise, foot care, cessation of smoking and dietary modification. Recommendations: There is an obvious need for conducting health education about exercise, the importance of having a healthy diet, also, it is recommended to implement a policy on diabetic foot management and respectable patient follow-up to increase compliance with care would help to improve this situation.
