Abstract

Summary
This Simulation Study was conducted to evaluate the effect of extra coronal Double OT CAP attachment , Single OT CAP attachment and Conventional removable denture on the stresses induced around the abutments and Supporting edentulous ridge in partial denture restoring Kennedy class II, using strain guage analysis. Three models used educational purpose were modified and duplicated into acrylic resins to represent Kennedy class II cases with the canine and first premolar unilaterally as last standing abutments. They were also modified for installation of strain gauges and for simulation of the oral mucosa.
Canine and first premolar unilaterally were prepared to receive fixed metal crowns with porcelain facings.
Three removable partial dentures were constructed following the same procedures. They exhibited the same design and only differed in the retaining attachment. The partial denture retained with Double OT CAP attachment was unilaterally and seated on the first model. While the partial denture retained with Single OT CAP attachment was bilaterally and seated on the second model. While The partial denture retained retained with Conventional partial denture was bilaterally and seated on the third model ,
Strain gauges were installed in the acrylic model in specially prepared grooves. Two of the guages were installed l mm buccal and distal to the right first premolar (attachment side ) , Other one gauge were installed on the ridge of the free end saddle area , 20 mm distal to the first premolar on each model .
A round tip load applicator was Constructed and adapted to fit unilaterally on the occlusal Surface of the right first molar of the denture . Load was applied vertically and unilaterally by the Universal Testing Machine. The applied load will Start from zero up to 100 N.

A four channel strain meter was used to record the micro Strains. Strain gauges were installed vertically buccal and distal to the abutments and on the ridge of the free end saddle ,
Double and Single OT CAP attachments induced more stresses to the supporting structures of the abutments than the Conventional removable denture .
Conventional partial denture induced more stresses to the residual ridge than the both types Double and Single OT CAP attachments .
