Abstract

The most common chronic diabetes complication are diabetic neuropathies affecting up to 50 % of diabetic patients.
DPN is the most prevalent chronic complication of diabetes and is the most prevalent cause of neuropathy in the world, accounting for over 75% of diabetic neuropathies.
Amputation is 10 to 20 times more common in diabetics than in non-diabetics, and part of a lower limb or a lower limb is amputated every 30 seconds somewhere in the world as a result of DPN, especially when associated with PVD causes foot ischemia.
Our study aimed at determining the prevalence and risk factors of peripheral neuropathy among patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus in a sample of diabetic subjects in Alexandria, Egypt.
The study was conducted on 500 adult (≥18 years) subjects with type 2 diabetes mellitus.
