Abstract The present study deals with the dynamics of the Polychaetes community and associated bacteria along Alexandria coast between El Montazah at the east and El Mex Bay at the west. The study was carried out bimonthly from August 2018 to June 2019. The samples were collected at 9 sites representing ecologically different habitats of both soft and hard bottoms. The polychaetes assemblages on hard substrates were collected at 5 sites, while in soft bottom they were brought from nine sites. For hard substrates three sites (El Montazah, Gleem, and Stanly) are not impacted by serious human activities, while the Eastern Harbour and El Mex are impacted sites because they are affected by different human activities, particularly discharged wastes. By contrary, the beaches of five soft bottom sites were frequently exposed to filling processes for the shore protection, while four sites sampled at the Eastern Harbour and El Mex were under the effect of high eutrophication and other environmental stress. |
