Abstract

Both positive and negative dysphotopsia can occur after perfect cataract surgery. much surgeons don‟t pay much attention for dysphotopsia however, it affects visual satisfaction of patients after surgery and one of the chief causes of this frustrating effect of IOL implantation, and surgeons and industry are taking notice
Several studies have shown that PMMA rigid IOL can reduce symptoms of dysphotosia specially positive type .reverse optic capture three pieces iol can treat symptoms of negative type of dysphotopsia .in biometry we choose little myopic IOL calculation which give some improvement effect on dysphotopsia and satisfaction of patient later on .
In this study, Total twenty patients were included in this study. All were diagnosed with cataract. Careful history was taken from all patients and they underwent ophthalmological examination including BCVA, slitlamp biomicroscopy examination and corneal tomography.
Phacoemulsification surgery was performed and follow up in day one then after 1 week then every week till 1 month .at the last visit dysphotopsia and quality of life questionnaire was performed.
During follow up visits patients complained of unwanted images mostly in the form of haloes and glares and it didn‟t improve with time however, uncomplicated perfect surgery performed and good visual outcome.
Dysphotopsia or unhappy 6/6 patient after phaco emulsifiation surgery must be taken into consideration because it may affect visual outcome and satisfaction specially in patients with special occupation and life style.
Dysphotopsia may cause visual disability to patients and affects their normal life and activities thus, we will see uncomfortable complaining patient this may result in attempting for another surgery for IOL exchange or another treatment options for dysphotopsia to give the patient better visual outcome.
Dysphotopsia is real and must be taken into consideration in studies and researches to know its causes and more information in order to solve this problem like having special designs of IOL which gives better visual outcome and satisfaction.
