The construction industry represents a major factor in the development of countries. Since it has a great impact on the livelihood and well-being of mankind, there was an urgent need to use better and more sophisticated methods and tools to improve the efficiency of this industry.
As there is a great importance to complete the project construction operations within the specified period of time, it was necessary to choose a modern and sophisticated method to solve this problem. It was also necessary to know the factors affecting the time of the project, and try to make those factors work better by using that modern method.
The risk management had a significant impact on the time management of construction projects. Which led to the necessity of studying that management and knowing how it works and improving it to improve the management of project time.
Building information modeling is considered as a modern and advanced method that has been applied in many countries to improve the efficiency of construction operations. As it has a great impact on time management for projects through the fourth dimension of BIM (4D) (Time). Building information modeling can also be used as a complete and integrated system in the construction processes from the early stages of the project to the operation and maintenance stage, which leads to improved risk management for the project, and thus improved time management for the project.
Thus, this research work is concerned with studying two divisions of the projects, namely, risk management and time management. It also explains the relationship between them and how risk management affects time management, and then studies how building information modeling is used in these two managements (Time and Risk) to improve the time management for construction projects.
In addition, practical studies (case studies) are carried out on projects in which building information modeling has been used, and make a comparison between these projects in terms of the BIM methods used to improve time and risk management in the project, and then proposed a framework for using BIM in construction projects.
