Abstract

Acne is one of the most common dermatological disease of the skin. It is a self-limited disease that affects the sebaceous follicles. Acne vulgaris, affects 20-90% of all adolescents. Isotretinoin is 13-cis-retinoic acid that affects all the major aspects of acne. However, several adverse effects, including cutaneous side effects and laboratory alterations have been reported to associate with consumption of this isotretinoin.
This study was interventional study and was conducted on patients with acne vulgaris attending dermatology outpatient clinic of Suez Canal University hospital at Ismailia city. This study and was carried out on 30 male patients, their ages ranged from 16 to 30 years old with moderate to severe acne vulgaris. History and dermatological examination of acne were carried out. About 5 ml of venous blood had been collected from the patients pretreatment and post treatment with ISO for screening Biochemical parameters (serum Total testosterone, Free Testosterone, they were measured using Mini VIDAS through (ELFA). The Mini VIDAS is equipped with the ELFA (Enzyme Linked Fluorescent Assay). Serum SHBG levels were measured using SHBG ELISA Kits). ISO was continued for four months.
Pretreatment with Isotretinoin, the mean number of Lehmann index (total lesions count) was (88.700 ± SD 35.047) and aftertreatment (4 months), the mean number of Lehmann index was (27.800 ± SD 17.943), with percentage of reduction was 68.8 % which was statistically significant reduction of Lehmann index according to paired samples test (P value<0.001), which has been clinically noticed.
