Abstract The chemistry of pyrimidines is a blossoming field for the study of their biological uses. Numerous methods for the synthesis of pyrimidine derivatives as well as their diverse reactions offer enormous scope in the field of medicinal chemistry. The utility of pyrimidines as synthon for various biologically active compounds has been given impetus to these studies. Pyrimidinones and their cyclic an/or acyclic nucleosides are of considerable biological importance . Vareious analogues of pyrimidines and thiopyrimidines possess effective antibacterial, antifungal, antiviral, insectidal, and miticidal activities. |
