Abstract construction companies to improve the quality of their work, increase work effectiveness, reduce waste and costs, and increase profit. Most construction managers agree that the industry is susceptible to wasteful spending, delays, errors, and project inefficiency that represent a large percentage of production cost. The researchers have implemented different methods to reduce the amount of waste in the construction industry. One of the most effective methods for minimizing waste is the application of lean techniques. The basic concept of lean thinking is minimizing waste and maximizing value. The main objective of this study is to examine the ability of lean construction principles to minimize construction process waste through a literature review to show construction process wastes categorized using lean thinking, and lean principles related to waste reduction in the construction process. A verification case with computerized simulation model using arena 16.1 software is performed to help us in revealing shortages related to the designed system and highlighting the opportunities for improving the system performance in the real-process using a simulation model. lean concepts applied to the real-process simulation model.The amount of each type of waste assessed for these lean and real-process models to show the ability of lean principles to minimize the process waste. The study result showed that, only 14% of respondents have average understanding about lean construction, but most of respondents use lean tools and techniques without well knowledge about lean.
