Abstract

In the treatment of septic patients, it is important to detect those who are at high risk for lethal outcome. Major determinant of outcome is intensity of insult (sepsis, septic shock) as well as immunoinflammatory response.
Recently special attention to specific markers that originated due to inflammatory process during infection such as vascular growth factors as angiopoietins family. Angiopoietin signaling most directly corresponds with angiogenesis, They are responsible for assembling and disassembling the endothelial lining of blood vessels. Angiopoietin cytokines are involved with controlling microvascular permeability, vasodilation, and vasoconstriction by signaling smooth muscle cells surrounding vessels as the inflammatory process during sepsis, two angiopoietins which was concluded in sepsis and its out come, Angiopoietin-1and Angiopoietin-2.
Angiopoietin-1 which was proved that its high levels favor the prognosis of sepsis unlike Angiopoietin-2 which can be used as a biomarker of sepsis diagnosis and its severity. Angiopoietin-2 has been tested as a guide to the prognosis of various diseases, such as cancer, community pneumonia and sepsis. This study aimed to assess the role of Angiopoietin-2 in diagnosis of sepsis and prognosis of mortality among septic children in Pediatric Intensive Care Unit, Menoufia University Hospital.
This was a prospective observational study conducted on 70 children admitted to Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) of a tertiary center, faculty of medicine, Menoufia University and 25 healthy
