Abstract The results showed that the DTI quantitative parameters show the potential to enhance the PC diagnosis and characterization. These parameters seem to be a hopeful method for assessment the pathologic alterations of PC tissue, such as predict pathologic stage of the tumor. Our present study combined quantitative parameter values (FA and MD values) and parametric diagrams (FA, DWI and DTI maps), which fully revealed the correlation of FA and MD values with the Gleason score of PC. These values may be used to assess PC invasiveness and prognosis, allowing the development of a clinical individualized treatment plan. The current study has found that DTI parameters vary majorly among malignant and normal tissue of prostate that can be elucidated with PC hypercellularity. DTI, when used in combination with routine MRI of prostate may be valuable in improving the specificity and the sensitivity of detection of PC. The isointense tumor foci that can be missed with only T2 sequences, can be revealed with the help of diffusion-weighted imaging and tensor imaging. This data will be valuable for prediction of the tumor aggressiveness. Applying DTI with determination of the value of FA may further help in cellularity prediction. We believe that this hypothesis should be validated with further research. Further studies on the impact of DTI and DTI tractography on diagnostic and prognostic factors are required to verify our preliminary findings. |
