Abstract

Dissertation Abstract : This thesis is concerned with the search for new solutions of the equations of motion of a rigid body because the problems of rigid body dynamics have many practical importance in most fields of physics and technology such as the rotational motion of the satellites and the underwater vehicles. The present thesis consists of four chapters and is organized as : Chapter one is an introduction to the history of the subject and a review for previous related important published studies works are given. Chapter two presents the four problems of motion of a rigid body. In chapter three, the equations of motion of a rigid body acted upon by general conservative potential and gyroscopic forces are reduced to a single second-order differential equation (Yehia’s reduced equation of rigid body dynamics). This reduced equation is used to construct a new solution of the problem of motion of a multiconnected rigid body in an ideal incompressible fluid. Chapter four is concerned with presenting new solutions for the problem of the motion of a rigid body-gyrostat around a fixed point under the action of different types of forces having an axis of symmetry.
