Abstract

Egypt generates annually large quantities of industrial wastes such as electric arc furnace dust “EAFD”, water-cooled slag “WCS”, air-cooled slag “ACS”, fly ash “FA, which generated from different industries thermally activated metakaolin (MK). Most of these wastes have undesirable environmental impacts and potential threats. Furthermore, most of industrial wastes considered as pollutants and affect greatly on human health, plants and ground water. The potential recycling of such referred wastes varies from one country to another depending on the economic and technical aspects.EAFD is a major byproduct introduced in electric arc furnace (EAF) steel making industry, Steel scrap is recycled primarily using electric arc furnaces (EAFs). Scrap and Direct Reduced Iron “DRI” as input materials are melt into Electric Arc Furnace by means of electric power that is applied to EAF through graphite electrodes, during melting Oxygen is injected into molten steel to accelerate melting and saving of electric power consumption. EAFD is composed of different metallic oxides such as FeO, ZnO, Pb2O5, MnO and MgO, etc. The utilization of EAFD containing hazardous metals such as Pb, Cd, Cr or Zn using geopolymerization technology is illustrated in this thesis.
