Abstract

People who live near mining sites are exposed to metal-laden soil and dust, as well as surface water contaminated with mineral debris. Arsenic, manganese, lead, and cadmium are among the neurotoxic metals found in mining waste. Although research into the adverse effects of a single exposure to any of these metals is critical for elucidating neurotoxicity mechanisms.
