Abstract

Water pollution is one of the most serious ecological threats in Egypt. The Nile Delta lakes namely; Mariut, Edku, Burullus and and Manzala lake are ecologically and economically important wetlands on the Mediterranean coast of Egypt. However, these lakes have been impacted for many years by effluents containing industrial, domestic and agricultural wastes. Heavy metal pollution in aquatic environment has become a worldwide problem during the past few decades. This fact is mainly attributed to their persistent, stability and toxic effect to aquatic as well as terrestrial organisms.
