Abstract

Learning style is a method absorbs and retains new information or skills but the process is different for each in student. Learning styles preferences among nursing students is one of the most important factors which influence the academic achievement. The study aimed to: Assess learning styles preferences and its relation to academic achievement among nursing students. Design: A descriptive cross sectional study was utilized to conduct this study. Sample: Total number of studied nursing students sample were (368) included by simple random sample. Tools: Two tools were used for data collection for this study namely: leaning styles questionnaire and student academic achievement auditing sheet. Results: Indicated more than two thirds (67.9%) preferred kinesthetic learning style and near to half (47%) of the studied nursing students had excellent level toward academic achievement. Conclusion: The present study concluded that, there was a highly statistical significant positive correlation between total academic achievement of the studied students and their preference of kinesthetic style, Followed by a significant positive correlation between total academic achievement of the studied students and their preference of read\write style. While there was no significant correlation between total academic achievement of the studied students and their preference of auditory and visual style. Recommendations: Encourage educator to help the nursing students` to understand the learning styles preferences and make use of such to develop life-long students. Programs should be designed to improve students’ learning styles and learning strategies for all levels to make the teaching and learning process more effective.
