Abstract

The testes are the primary reproductive organs in male responsible for sperm production. They are paired ovoid organs located within the scrotum outside the body cavity.
Sexual behavior consists of sequence of actions depending on many factors combining intact testicular function with intact sex organs. Sotalol is a non-cardioselective beta-blocker that also possesses potassium channel blocker properties, so it is classified as a class III antiarrhythmic agent. Although it has crucial role in treatment of cardiac patients, it has various side effects. Alpinia officinarum Hance is a pungent and aromatic rhizome characterized by having anti-inflammatory, anti-oxidative, antidiabetic, anti-ulcer, anti-diarrhea, antiemetic, analgesia, anticoagulation, antitumor and antivitiligo effects. The plant extracts were found to alleviate oxidative stress caused by many drugs affecting various organs. So, it can reduce the oxidative damage produced by Sotalol without side effects.
The present study was performed to study the effect of Alpinia officinarum Hance rhizome extract on testis & sexual behavior of adult male albino rat treated with Sotalol Hydrochloride.
7.1. Materials and Methods:
Fifty adult male albino rats & fifty adult female rats with average weight of 200-250 gm were used in this study. The male albino rats were
classified into five main groups: -
 group I (Control): Composed of 10 rats which were further subdivided into 2 equal subgroups, each one was composed of 5 rats.
– Ia: 5 rats received distilled water (vehicle of Sotalol hydrochloride) orally by gavage for 21 days.
