Abstract Abstract In this study, three cationic surface-active agents were prepared by the reaction of three fatty acids esters of 2-dimethyl ethanolamine and 1- Bromo hexane. Then, three Gemini cationic surface-active agents were prepared by quaternization of the fatty acids esters of L, M, S and 1,6 dibromohexane. The prepared cationic and their Gemini – homologous were characterized using micro elemental analysis, FTIR, and 1HNMR spectroscopy. The surface activity of the prepared surfactants was determined including: effectiveness, efficiency, maximum surface excess and minimum surface area based on surface tension measurements at 25,45and 650C. The prepared cationic surfactants were loaded on silver Nano particles and the assembled frame works were investigated using UV-vis, TEM, and DLS measurements. The surface activity investigation revealed the increased tendency of different cationic surfactants towards adsorption and micellization (preferable for adsorption). Also, the activity was dependent on the alkyl chain length. The Gemini cationic surfactants were more surface active. The capped cationic surfactants on AgNPs, increased the surface activity. The antimicrobial assay of the different cationic surfactants and their AgNPs capped forms were effective than the commercial agents towards gram +ve, gram –ve bacteria and chosen fungi. The assay ordered the prepared compounds as follows: Gemini –AgNPs >cationic –AgNPs > Gemini cationic > cationic surfactants. |
