Abstract

Approximately 10% of world population has been affected by
chronic kidney disease (CKD), and nearly 3 million people worldwide
currently have been taking renal replacement therapy mostly in the
form of hemodialysis.
Hemodialysis is a complex process that requires regular dialysis
center visits and affects the patient life style in all aspects. When we
think of the quality of life in the aspect of health and disease, we can
use the term health-related quality of life (HRQOL). HRQOL is a
combination of several components due to multi dimensional nature of
health including physical, social, emotional, and mental.
Vitamin D deficiency is common in CKD and maintenance
hemodialysis patients Low bone mineral density, muscle weakness,
metabolic syndrome, vascular calcification and stiffness, progression
of kidney disease, left ventricular hypertrophy, atherosclerosis and
infection are several conditions that can be associated with vitamin D
deficiency in CKD and hemodialysis patients, and all of these
conditions can indirectly or directly affect the quality of life.
Aim of the work
The aim of our study was to investigate the relationship between
vitamin D levels and HRQOL in maintenance hemodialysis patients
and provide useful information on such an important issue.
Patients and methods
The present study involved 85 end-stage renal disease (ESRD)
patients treated with conventional maintenance hemodialysi
