Abstract Lung cancer is one of the leading cancers in the world. It is an important health problem especially in high incidence areas with high mortality rates that is closely related to physical risk factors such as radon or ultraviolet radiation exposure or environmental factors such as arsenic and chromium compounds, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) and asbestos. There are at least 50 different carcinogens in tobacco smoke that induce lung carcinoma. Of those carcinogen products the tobacco-specific N-nitrosamines and PAHs which contribute significantly to its carcinogenic effect. The need for development of new strategies towards lung cancer eradication with fewer side effects and no relapse led us in this regard to examine dendritic cells (DCs), tumor cell lysate loaded dendritic cell vaccine (TCL-DCV) and cisplatin that affect tumor immune microenvironment with emphasis on their immunomodulatory activities and cancer stemness properties using both benzo(a)pyrene (BP) intoxicated mice model and in vitro A549 cell line. |
