Abstract Introduction Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is a chronic relapsing–remitting course disease and it is a complex autoimmune disease with many manifestations resulting in a spectrum of disease ranging from mild to life-threatening illness. Aim of the Work The aim was to investigate the association between IL 27 rs 153109 polymorphism and JSLE in a cohort of Egyptian patients and to study its relation disease presentation and outcome especially LN. Patients and Methods This is a case control study carried out on 90 subjects, 51patients (12 males and 39 females) with age ranged from 4 years to 18 years with SLE & LN. Using (PCR–RFLP) method. Results Taking rs153109 AA as the reference genotype and A as the reference allele; no significant association was found in genotypes, alleles frequencies between SLE cases and control groups, suggesting that these two IL-27 polymorphisms may not influence susceptibility to SLE. Discussion Analysis was conducted for prediction of LN development using age, gender, urinary protein, SLEDAI, rs153109 genotypes as covariates, none was considered as risk predictor for LN development in uni- and multivariable analyses and for advanced LN classes. Conclusion IL-27 rs153109 SNP was not associated with risk of SLE or LN development. In addition it was not associated with SLE activity, LN classes. |
