Abstract

The corrosion inhibition of carbon steel in 1M hydrochloric acid was assessed by six newly synthesized hydrazide derivatives (H1, H2, H3, H4, H5, and H6) using weight loss (WL), potentiodynamic polarization (PP), electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), FT-IR, atomic force microscope (AFM) and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) techniques. High inhibition efficiencies were obtained due to formation of protective film on carbon steel surface which increased by increasing concentration and decreased with increasing temperature which are the characteristics of physisorption. The adsorption of compounds on carbon steel surface followed Temkin adsorption isotherm. Thermodynamic parameters calculations were achieved to describe the inhibition mechanism. Potentiodynamic polarization results proved that the assessed compounds are mixed- type inhibitors.
