Abstract

This study is aim to assessment of the effectiveness of Tilmicosin in treating infected pasteurellosis Holstein calves.10 Holstein Calves suspected to be suffering from BRD were treated with Tilmicosin and another 10 Holstein healthy calves under the same conditions of hygiene, nutrition and management were used as control group. Nasal swap was collected from the infected calves for bacteriological isolation and blood samples were collected for hematological and biochemical analysis at zero, 7th, 14th day from the two groups. The infected calves were suffering from elevation of body temperature, a significant decrease in ruminal movement rate and nasal discharges with various degrees and ocular discharge. The bacteriological isolation from the nasal swap from the infected calves was Pasteurella multocida and 70% was Mannheimia haemolytica serotype A. The hematological analysis of the tilmicosin treated group show significant decrease in RBCs at zero week and at the second week, with significant increase in WBCs at the second week, with no significant change in Hgb, but there is significant decrease in HCT at Zero Week and second week, and significant decrease of MCV at zero week and first week ,with significant increase of MCH at zero week ,with significant increase in MCHC at zero week and second week with significant increase in Plt at second week, significant decrease in lymphocyte at zero week and second week but there is significant increase of neutrophil at zero week and second week with significant decrease at first week. The biochemical analysis show no significant change in total protein and albumin with significant increase in Got at first week, significant decrease in Gpt at second week, significant increase in Alp at Zero week and first week there is significant increase in Gb at zero week, first week and second week, albumin concentration was significantly decreased, significant decrease of cereatinine at zero week and significant increase in first week. The conclusion is tilmicosin show no effect in hemoglobin, total protein, albumin with significant decrease in RBCs & lymphocyte and significant increase in WBCs, neutrophil, platelets and globulin.
