Abstract Multiparametric MRI protocol of renal masses is including functional imaging (DWI and DCE) techniques combined with T2W and chemical-shift imaging. Morphological evaluation of solid renal mass as renal cell carcinoma is not achieved in a straight forward manner due to an overlap in appearance with some benign lesions especially in absence of characteristic morphological features such as oncocytoma central scar and angiomyolipoma macroscopic fat. Quantative MRI parameters provide comprehensive assessment of renal lesions which in turn provides information that helps to address this dilemma. The study aimed to assess the effectiveness of multiparametric MRI in characterization of solid renal masses regarding differentiation between benign and malignant masses and characterizing subtypes of renal cell carcinoma. It is a single-center two years-experience prospective cohort study included 80 patients (44 male and 36 female). According to histopathology, there were 43 clear cell RCCs, 12 papillary RCC, 8 chromophobe RCC, 12 oncocytomas and 5 AMLs. All patients underwent multiparametric MRI study (Pre and Post Gd-enhanced T1WI, T2WI, chemical-shift imaging and DWI) by using 3 Tesla MRI scanner. ADC ratio, chemical-shift imaging, dynamic enhancement parameters in both corticomedullary and nephrographic phases as well as absolute washout were calculated and compared using ROC curve analysis. |
