Abstract ABSTRACT Background: Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is one of the most common chronic conditions of childhood and the most common neurobehavioral disorder in child health, Aim: Assess needs and health problems of family caregivers and their children with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder Design: Descriptive research design was used Sample: Purposive sample was used in this study to choose 103 family caregivers and their children. Setting: This study was conducted at psychiatry outpatient clinics for pediatric at psychiatry center – Ain Shams University. Tools: interview questionnaire sheet that contain : Demographic characteristics of family caregivers and their children, family history, knowledge of family caregiver’s and assessing needs and health problems of family caregivers and their children with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder. Results: The present study show that 14.5% of family caregiver had low level of needs,17.5% of them had moderate level of need and 68% of them had high level of needs,38.8% of the caregiver had poor level of knowledge regarding attention deficit hyperactivity disorder although 9.7% of them had good level of knowledge,14.6% of family caregivers and their children had mild level of total health problems although 17.5% of them had severe level of total health problems .Conclusion: there were statistically significant correlation between total score of knowledge , total score of needs and total score of health problems among family caregivers and their children with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder. Recommendations: Future research focus on the alternative ways for treating attention deficit hyperactivity disorder in different community setting. |
