Abstract

Tibial aspect ratio of arthritic knees was significantly lower in comparison to our results in non-arthritic knees. But femoral aspect ratio of arthritic knees was significantly higher in comparison to our results.
It is known the Total Knee Arthroplasty systems most commonly used in Egypt were designed based on the anthropometric parameters obtained from Caucasian individuals, consequently and according to our results which showed significant mismatching in knee morphometry between Egyptian and Caucasian population, these systems may not provide an optimal fit for the Egyptian people.
According to our results, development of femoral component with size variation of 59 – 85 mm in mediolateral length and 42 – 68 mm in anteroposterior length and tibial component size variation of 61 – 83 mm in mediolateral length and 36 – 54 mm in anteroposterior length, is strongly recommended. The aspect ratio of the implants must be re-designed to match the morphologic data so that there is no mediolateral under sizing for given AP dimensions of the population. Also implants should be developed with consideration of PCOR of the Egyptian population.
