Abstract

The mean age of our study population was (mean ± SD) 46.3 ± 19.4 years. In terms of gender, there was female predominance in our study. There were 18 (40.9%) males and 26 (59.1%) females in this study.
The cause of acute pancreatitis was gallstones in 28 patients (63.7%), post ERCP in 10 patients (22.7%) and idiopathic or other entities in 6 patients (13.6%).
In the study population, seven patients developed severe acute pancreatitis (prevalence, 15.9%). Parenchymal necrosis was recorded in eight patients among our study population.
The mean WBC among our study population was high as we reported mean WBC of 14,673 ± 4846 (×106/L). According to albumin levels among our study population, we reported mean albumin levels of 3.92 g/dL.
The reported mean calcium level among our study population was 8.76mg/dL, which is within the normal level. We reported high levels of C-reactive protein among our study population 57.3mg/dL. The mean body mass index among our study population was 27.3 (normal up to 25).
Regarding APACH-II score, the area under the curve was 0.79 (p < 0.001) denoting fair test quality. A point was chosen on the ROC curve corresponding with criteria ≥ eight for optimal sensitivity (82.6%) and minimal false-positive rates.
Regarding BISAP score, the area under the curve was 0.82 (p < 0.001) denoting good test quality. A point was chosen on the ROC curve corresponding with criteria ≥ two for optimal sensitivity (88.4%) and minimal false-positive rates.
Regarding the Balthazar grade, the area under the curve was 0.71 (p = 0.007) denoting fair test quality. A point was chosen on the ROC
