Abstract The aim of this study was to show the effect of photorefractive keratectomy (PRK) surgery on corneal endothelium by using mitomycin - C and without using it. This study included 60 eyes, were divided into two groups each group of them included 30 eyes. group A: patients underwent PRK with MMC. group B: patients underwent PRK without MMC. Complete ophthalmic examinations were performed to all patients including the following: history, visual acuity, slit lamp examination, IOP measurement, fundus examination and imaging of the corneal endothelium by noncontact specular microscope (NIDEK CEM-530, Ltd., gamagori, Japan) to assess [endothelial cell density (ECD), central corneal thickness (CCT), Coefficient of Variation (CV) and Hexagonal cells (HEX)]. The mean of Cell density in group A preoperative was (2908.7±399.2) and postoperative was ( 2904.8±401.9), while in group B preoperative was (2862.8±417.5) and postoperative was (2789.2±409.9). Finally, according to the results of this study, there was no statistically significant differences were detected in corneal EC study parameters in two study groups (A) and (B). |
