Abstract 1- The present work deals mainly with the morphological and anatomical seed characteristics and SDS-PAGE protein banding for 13 species belonging to three tribes of Papilionoideae (Leguminosae) in Egypt. 2- The three studied tribes, Sophoreae, Crotalarieae, and Genisteae, are representedin Egypt by six genera: Anagyris L., Crotalaria L., LupinusL., Lotononis(DC.) Eckl. &Zeyh.,ArgyrolobiumEckl. &Zeyh.,andRetamaRaf. 3- The studieswere based mainly onextensive collections gathered from herbarium specimens deposited in the Egyptian herbaria: ASTU and CAI,in addition to field studies. 4- Morphological characters of seed-coat sculpturing were conducted using Light and Scanning Electron Microscopes. A diagnostic key based on seed macro- and micro-morphological featureswasconstructed for taxa recognition. The most important results, are shown in the following: - Seeds of Sophoreae, Crotalarieae, and Genisteae showed high variability in shape, size, surface topography, hilum characters, epidermal cell patterns, periclinal cell walls, and anticlinal cell boundaries. |
