Abstract

The present study was performed on the clinicopathological effect of hyperlipidemia and to study the hypolipidemic effect of two medicinal plants (quinoa seeds and psyllium husk) and to detect their efficacies. The present experiment was conducted on 90 apparently healthy male albino rats with 175-188 gm average body weight which divided equally into 6 groups.
group (1) normal control. group (2) hyperlipidemia induction at 21 day from beginning of the experiment by single intraperitoneal injection of Triton X-100 at a dose of 100 mg/kg B.W. and served as hyperlipidemic group. group (3) quinoa seeds ethanolic extract only at a dose of 300 mg/kg B.W. by gavages daily for 40 days. group (4) were orally given psyllium husk ethanolic extract only at a dose of 100 mg/kg B.W. daily for 40 days. group (5) quinoa extract by the same dose, route and time as gp.3 with induction of hyperlipidemia as occurs in gp (2). group (6) psyllium extract by the same dose, route and duration as gp. (4) with induction of hyperlipidemia as occurs in gp (2).
Blood samples were collected at the 31 and 41 days of the experiment. Blood samples were collected from retro-orbital venous plexus without anticoagulant in a sterile test tube for separation of serum for biochemical tests. Tissue specimens were collected from liver, kidneys and pancreas for histopathological examination at the end of the experiment.
