Abstract

Induction motors are widely used in many fields of industrial production systems and there is a strong demand for their reliable and safe operation. In industries induction motor drives are the major power consuming devices and they mostly preferred for industrial applications. The efforts to reduce the energy consumption begin with its main load, the induction motor. There is a world agreement that this objective can be achieved by motors efficiency regulation. So, energy conservation in this squirrel cage induction motor drive significantly reduce the cost of the electricity in industry. Many energy conservation techniques are available for induction motors drives they are classified into online and offline. The online method includes (voltage balance, proper cooling, flux optimization, APFC and Losses at switches), and the offline method includes (suitable Hp rating selection, suitable capacitance rating selection, selecting good quality coils and selecting good quality core). A model for the induction motor is developed in this thesis to be used in MATLAB. Also, the electrical model for the induction motor is developed in order to achieve a higher efficiency and power factor. This can be done using the voltage as a factor proportional to the load torque of the induction motor. Using MATLAB simulation enables us to estimate the load torque from no load to full load. Also, using the voltage frequency control to keep the torque constant and obtain high performance of induction motor. To achieve the best and longest motor performance, it is important to recognize the load torque at no load, 1/4, 1/2, 3/4, and full load to calculate the voltage value to Abstract V proportional to this value of load torque. The stator voltage of induction motor is displayed on simulation by using lookup table. An experimental test the induction motor enables us to control the speed by voltage/ frequency (V/HZ) method using microcontroller to achieve energy saving of the induction motor.
