Abstract The study investigated cytotoxicity and induction of apoptosis in human cervical cancer cells (HeLa), prostate cancer cells (PC-3), and colorectal cancer cells (CACO-2) using the most active fraction of Moringa peregrina seed. 2 kg of dried seed powder was extracted using 95% ethyl alcohol, followed by fractionated the concentrated alcoholic extract into parts using polar gradient solvents, which are petroleum ether, chloroform and ethyl acetate. Results showed that chloroform fraction of ethanolic extract of Moringa peregrina seeds (high active antitumor fraction) induce apoptotic effects on HeLa, PC-3 and CACO-2 confirming by fragmentation of DNA on the agarose gel, increasing gene and protein expression of Caspase-3, Decreasing in gene expression of BCL-2 and increasing in numbers of early apoptotic cells and late apoptosis cells in cancer cells. In conclusion, Seed extract of Moringa peregrina displayed a significant antitumor effect through apoptosis induction in HELA, PC-3 and CACO-2 cancer cells. |
