Abstract The presented work aimed to isolate some bioactive compounds from Red Sea soft corals. This thesis included Two Parts: Part one: Nephthea sp. Chemical investigations of the soft coral Nephthea sp. collected from the Red Sea led to isolation of nine compounds: one new steroid, 4α,24R-dimethyl 5α-ergost-22E-en-3β, 8β, 18-triol (1), five known steroids (2-6), two known sesquiterpenoids (7 and 8) and a known ceramides (9). Structures were elucidated by employing extensive NMR and HR-EI-MS experimentation. The total extract, fractions and compounds from Nephthea showed differential cytotoxicity against breast cancer cells MCF-7. HO. |
