Abstract

Distribution systems become more multifaceted and greatly loaded and thus results in voltage stability problems. This problem is one of the peak important issues in distribution power system analysis. The process and construction of distribution system is changing with the integration of distributed generation, based on alternative energy sources, including renewable energy sources (wind, solar). Among the new issues, there is the question of stability of distribution systems in the presence of distributed generation. Amongst major concerns this research, studied the impact of connecting Distributed Generation (DG) in radial distribution system with different penetration levels and on power system voltage stability, power loss reduction and optimal size and location to install DG in distribution system to minimize active power loss. Load flow calculation curried out using forward-backward sweep method. The analysis proceeds on a33 bus radial distribution systems. Results show that voltage stability enhancement and power loss reduction should be considered as DG installation objective. Also in this study, the optimal placement and size for installing DG or CB at different loads in distribution systems to minimize system active loss was studied. The optimization technique was applied on 33 bus systems. And also in this study, three indices (L, Lp and Lv) are presented to assess steady state voltage stability. These voltage stability indices are investigated under installing DG.
