Abstract

Drilling with Casing , Casing while Drilling , Drilling While Casing,
Drilling with Liner and Liner Drilling (LD) are different interchangeable
terms expressing the same basic principle. It is to use either a full casing string or a
partial liner, instead of the conventional drill pipe, to simultaneously perform both
drilling and casing operations. Thus, it combines both operations into only one run in
order to eliminate, or at least, minimize the risks of the problems associated with both
conventional drilling and casing operations.
Drilling with Casing technique is a Fast one-section casing design that uses
casing with a special bit to drill formation section as a drill string. It integrates the
drilling and casing processes to provide a more efficient well construction system by
eliminating the drill string’s trips and allowing the well to be simultaneously drilled
and cased.
Research into drilling with casing operations has become a well-known technology
used to minimize drilling time and reduce authorization for expenditures budget. The
study of the available data was integrated into an improved design that helps to
develop future plans, enhance overall drilling performance, overcome wellbore
instability with improved drilling efficiency, and propose drilling with casing as a
successful and economical enabling technique. Unfortunately, drilling with casing is
not an easy task and requires good experience and knowledge of the encountered
interpretation challenges.
The objective of this research is to gather experimental and real field data in western
desert in Egypt. Applying technology as an enabling tool will result in
improving drilling performance indicators in both fields. Study focused on Two
candidate wells in fields X, and one well in field Y were identified in KHALDA CO.
and one well in field Z in NOR-CO., where surface hole sections were drilled from
surface to top of APOLLONIA formation as a setting casing depth.
So, by studying the comparison between the three actual cases with Drilling with
Casing wells and other three offset wells with conventional drilling in two different
