Abstract

AT design a realistic water network using more than one contaminant, it is often desirable to have a simple structure to achieve a high level of operation and safety. Based on any initial design, the proposed heuristic evolution methodology can be systematically applied to produce an improved network with fewer interconnections, less total throughput and closer to the minimum fresh water usage . Specifically, the minimum number of connections is first targeted and then three strategies for essential development. Loop breakage, two source shift and path relaxation, can be used to search the goal of number. The calculations required in this procedure can be easily achieved using hand calculator. Four examples are given to explain the steps for implementation and to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed approach. Four cases from the literature has been solved to demonstrate the applicability of the proposed procedure - For case 1 (3 processes and 3 contaminants) We have minimum freshwater = 109.5t/h and the number of interconnections = 7 match - For case2 (5 processes and 3 contaminants) We have minimum fresh freshwater =114.5 t/h and the number of interconnections= 11 match - For case 3 ( 6processes and 3 contaminants) We have minimum fresh freshwater71.75 t/h and the number of Interconnections 11 match - For case 4 ( 8processes and 3 contaminants) We have minimum fresh freshwater187 t/h and the number of interconnections 17 match IV TABLE OF CONTENTS Thesis Summaryi Acknowledgment ii Abstract.
