Abstract Treatment of chronic periodontitis affected patients is based on measures for reduction/eradication of periodontal pathogens and alteration of the systemic and local host susceptibility. It is widely accepted that, although the bacteria are initiating agents in periodontitis, the host response to the pathogenic infection is critical to disease progression. The inflammatory host immune response resulting from bacterial infection may lead to progressive destruction of the supporting periodontal structure. This study aimed to evaluation the effects of topical application of Simvastatin and Metformin gel as a host response modulator treatment in management of chronic periodontitis. This study was conducted on 45 patients with chronic periodontitis. They were selected from Suez Canal University, faculty of Dentistry outpatient clinic of periodontology department. They were divided into three groups , each group consisting of 15 patients : group 1 was treated with scaling and root planning and placebo gel was applied , group 2 was treated with scaling and root planning and Simvastatin gel was applied , group 3 was treated with scaling and root planning and Metformin gel was applied . |
