The Internet is widely used among groups of society and in different fields and is increasingly used in our educational reality among elementary school students even university students. As a result of the increased use of the Internet, some psychological and behavioral problems arose and it was necessary for researchers to study these problems in a correct scientific way.
And middle school pupils are considered to be the early adolescence stage, which is characterized by some mental, emotional, emotional and social changes, interests, tendencies and a sense of self (Hamed Abdel Salam, 2005)
Students of this stage are exposed to confronting many psychological disorders and conflicts as a result of the new and multiple situations and events they face in their lives.
Therefore, the importance of human development has emerged, which is considered the most valuable development that countries can advance. It is a wealth that cannot be underestimated, and it is capable of building, reconstruction, invention and innovation if it is well managed and developed in a positive way, which contributes to the advancement of society.
It is also a science that reveals to us the inner world of man and his potential energies and provides us with tools and skills that can identify the person’s personality, way of thinking and behavior, and the obstacles that stand in the way of his creativity and excellence, as well as providing us with tools and methods by which the required positive change can be brought about in a person’s thinking, behavior, feeling and ability to achieve his goals. . (Soraya Hamed, 2007: 1)
Psychoengineering (NLP) is a modern science that is based on experience, and leads to tangible, tangible results. The issue of success and excellence is seen as a process that can be created and not a product of luck or chance. One of the rules of this science says: There is no luck and not There is a coincidence, but there are reasons and causes, and this science is of great importance to all people, especially those who want to change their bad habits and influence others (Ismail Al Halloul, 2009, 4).
Many thinkers, leaders, social reformers and educators, including Bandler, Gardner, Sutter, R Lexon, Al-Faqi and Solomon believe that a person should be persevering, glorified, patient, perfect for his work and organized for his time ... etc, but they did not say how a person can do So, as psychology is not interested in answering this question, as for psychological engineering (Neuro-Linguistic Programming), it answers this question and studies the positives and how to reach them. (Muhammad Asalia and Anwar Al-Banna, 2011,1120).
Neuro Linguistic Programming in English is called Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP), and the proposed Arabic term for this science is (psychological engineering) and the literal translation of this phrase is (neuro-linguistic programming) as:
Neuro: means nervous, that is, related to the nervous system. The nervous system is the one that controls the body’s functions, performance and activities such as behavior, thinking and feeling.
Linguistic: means linguistic, meaning related to language, and language is a means of interacting with others.
Programming: it means programming and programming is the method of forming the image of the outside world in the human mind, that is, brain programming (Andruber Deere, 2009, 1-4).
The researcher believes that a person acquires value, standards, behavior and way of thinking from his parents, family, teachers and society through the senses, and the language he hears from a young age, and reads it when he learns to read, and all this information goes to his brain and nervous system, and he only has that world that was formed in His mind, regardless of what happens in the outside world, and on the other hand, if what is in his mind changes, the world will change for him, and therefore if a person believes that he can do something, or if he believes that he cannot do it, then what he thinks is correct. In both cases, then, psychological engineering (NLP) is a method that helps a person change himself, reform his thinking, refine his behavior, purify his habits, and develop his talents and skills.
Although there is no specific and recognized definition among researchers, most of its definitions revolve as compulsive or disordered behavior and knowledge related to the use of the Internet and its role that leads to pressures in our daily life (Caplan, 2002; Chang & Law, 2008.
(Young) defines Internet addiction as excessive use of the Internet and failure to control Internet time management. Brunner, 1997: Young. 1998))
Hence the need to use psychological engineering to reduce Internet addiction.
Second: the study problem:
The researcher’s note of the complaints of many parents in the social environment about the increase in the number of hours that their children spend in front of electronic devices such as the computer, mobile phone and iPad, and the effect of these devices on their behaviors, emotions and dealings with those around them
The researcher also noticed the students ’severe attachment to the mobile phone, noticeably when students are absent from it for any circumstance, and he exhibits behaviors and behaviors that are no less similar to the behavior of a drug addict when he is absent
And the date comes, and he continues to search for her like a madman. The researcher was afraid of the fate of these students from this strong attachment to these devices.
The negative and harmful effects of the addiction of these devices on the behavior of individuals, which were identified through reviewing the references in this field, including the study of Wissam Izzat Muhammad Abbas (2011) and the study of Hussam al-Din Mahmoud Azab (2001), whose results clarified the negative impact of Internet addiction on the mental health of children and adolescents.
The negative effects that may arise from the idea of psychological engineering and the inability to use strategies to control Internet addiction efficiently and effectively, which may not be spared the individual and society alike, as psychological engineering fallacies or their absence may expose the individual to many dangers and disorders, and may even make him The least responsible for his actions that are carried out by especially middle school students, as they are in an important and dangerous stage, in which they need to increase awareness of psychological engineering in everything that surrounds them in their lives, and to control their feelings. So that their belief and confidence in their abilities to perform in a certain area does not diminish, which may reduce its achievement and disrupt its capabilities and goals.
For all of the above, there is an ethical, social, and economic necessity that calls for an understanding of the relationship between psychological engineering and Internet addiction among middle school students.
As for the fifth aspect of the problem of the current study, it is clear in the following points:
1 - The lack of knowledge of many of the learners in the preparatory stage about psychological engineering, its benefits and how to develop it, and this may be due to the lack of appropriate capabilities, and the lack of trained staff to activate and activate psychological engineering.
2- Preparatory school students may be exposed to Internet addiction; This may be due to the many pressures placed on them.
3- A student in middle school may not be able to confront and control sick internet use.
4- The research on the relationship between psychological engineering and Internet addiction - within the limits of the researcher’s knowledge - was not much, and there is no single Arab study - within the limits of the researcher’s knowledge - that dealt with the relationship between them. Thus, the study problem becomes clear in its perception and the urgent need to solve it.
2- Research importance:
It consists in directing the attention of researchers to the study of such a topic and addressing new research topics to keep pace with the cognitive development in the field of psychology.
3- Application importance:
It is represented in verifying the effectiveness of the psychological engineering program in reducing Internet addiction among middle school students, which encourages the use of psychological engineering programs in the treatment of other matters, such as psychological conflict, depression and other psychological disorders.
Terms of Action Study: -
1. Psychological Engineering: Neuro Linguistic Programming
2. Internet addiction: Internet addiction
First: Neuro-psychological engineering: Neuro Linguistic Programming
Define it (Ismail Al-Halloul, 2000): It is a science that helps the individual to change the self and the other, supports capabilities, refines behavior, stimulates motivation, and reaches a person to the degree of human excellence by which he can achieve goals and always raise his level of life.
It is also known as: It is an art and a science to reach a person to the level of human excellence by which he can achieve his goals and always raise the standard of his life (Ibrahim Al-Feki, 2004)
It is also: a science intended to reconfigure the images and knowledge that the mind receives from the outside programmatically, with the aim of reaching a perfect language in communicating with others and dealing with them in an optimal manner, by affecting the nervous system, which is the mental vessel of knowledge that studies the way of thinking in managing the senses and from Then it is programmed according to the aspirations that he sets for himself (Medhat Muhammad Abu Al-Nasr, 2007)
It is a behavioral science that gives theory, practice, and technology for change and influence (Antar Soliman, 2007)
And he knows it (David Molden, 2009) is a set of tools and techniques that will help you confront all of the useless patterns of thinking and behavior and use new, more positive and effective methods to improve your life.
And (Rose Carroll) sees it as a ”methodological guide to the use of construction for creativity and innovation,” which teaches how to think positively to improve performance.
Second: Internet addiction
Young (1998) definition: Excessive Internet use and failure to control Internet time management.
Definition of Michell (2000): - Excessive and forced increase in the use of the Internet and turning away from it leads to moody and nervous behaviors.
Davis (2001) definition: - The inability of individuals to control their use of the Internet, which in turn leads to psychological, social, and school effects and difficulties in the lives and work of individuals.
Hosam El-Din Mahmoud Azab’s definition (2001): Psychological dependence on the practice of dealing with the Internet for long or increasing periods without professional or academic necessities, so that it is at the expense of these or other necessities.
Through this definition, it is clear that Internet addiction is based on a basic pillar, which is the long period that the individual spends on the Internet, which affects the tasks and activities that are necessary. stern. S. E in the results of his study reported K. (1998). S, Young, in her study revealed unconfirmed reports that some Internet addicts became addicted to the Internet in the same way that they were addicted to drugs or alcohol, which led to academic, social and professional decline.
Definition (Shabira, etal, 2003): - The inability of individuals to control their use of the Internet, which in turn leads to a dysfunction of daily activities.
Definition (Beard, 2005): - A psychological state that arises as a result of the increased use of the Internet and includes emotional and mental states and causes disruption in social, professional and school interactions.
Definition of Internet addiction: “A type of psychosomatic disorder that affects a person like that of all addictions.” Addiction also includes some neurological disorders such as depression and nervousness
Definition of Internet addiction: “A type of psychosomatic disorder that affects a person like that, like all types of addiction.” Addiction also includes some neurological disorders such as depression, nervousness, ease of arousal, and the destruction of social relationships. External.
There is criticism from some for launching the concept of Internet addiction, because addiction is usually accompanied by negative effects and depends on a tangible material thing, while Internet addiction often has health and unhealthy outcomes. Therefore, Internet addiction is one of the forms of technological addiction, such as computer addiction and addiction. the games.
It is noted from the previous definitions centered on three axes, namely, excessive use of the Internet, lack of control over the Internet, and a demonstration such as psychological, behavioral, social, and school effects, among others.
Sometimes the addicted person is defined by the number of hours an individual spends on the Internet per week. The first research identified the addicted person as the one who uses the Internet from 38 hours per week or more. 1998 Murali & George, 2007; Young, while Holme believes that moderate use of the Internet is about 19 hours per week, and the disagreement over identifying an addicted person from a non-addict in light of the number of hours per week is due to the novelty of the concept in the research and did not reach maturity after Shabira etal
Sixth: Determinants of the study:
