Abstract

Acne vulgaris is one of the most common diseases worldwide. It is a disease of sebaceous follicles, acne vulgaris affects about 30-80% of all adolescents. There is not any complete treatment up till now. Isotretinion is a vitamin A derivative (13-cis-retinoic acid) that targets all the four pathogenic processes of acne vulgaris. However, several studied have reported many systemic side effects and laboratory disturbances in association with isotretinion treatment.
This study was interventional study and was applied on female patients with moderate and severe acne vulgaris attending dermatology outpatient clinic of Suez Canal University Hospital in Ismailia City. This study was carried out over 30 female patients, with moderate and severe acne, their ages in between18-25 years old. Complete history and dermatological examination were carried out before treatment initiation. About 5ml of venous blood collected from every patient prior to treatment and 3 months after treatment with isotretinion 0.5-.75mg/kg/day for three months for screening the following hormones (serum total testosterone and serum free testosterone), they were investigated and measured by using Mini VIDAS through ELFA (Enzyme Linked Fluorescent
