Abstract

This study involved 30 clinically stable preterm infants born at less than
32 weeks of gestational age and admitted to neonatal incubators unit from March
2019 to December 2019 at Menoufia University Hospital and Al Quds hospital at
Al Mahla Al Koubra, Egypt.
Aim of the work is to study screen the incidence of preterm children with
retinopathy of prematurity and its correlation with anemia during first week of
life.
A total of 30 were included in the study. Males constituted 14 of the
candidates with ROP present in 8 (44.4%) and 16 females with ROP present in 10
(55.6%).
The mean age for all patients was less than 32 weeks. The birth weight of
the study population ranged from 600–2860 The mean BW was 1514±391 g.
We noticed that the prevalence of retinopathy of prematurity was 100% in
<1000g while it was 33.3%in 2001g.
We found that at age of 25-26 weeks there were 2 infants and both of them
were with ROP. At age of 31-<32 weeks there were 14 infants, 7of them were
with ROP (38.8% from total 18 infants with ROP) and this represents 50 % of this
age period
