Abstract

Background: Problem- Based Learning (PBL) is teaching and learning model that provide contextual problems to the classroom, so that teacher can stimulate students to learn. PBL is a teaching and learning model that presents many authentic problems and meaningful to the students .Teaching and learning process using PBL challenges students to learn, work in group to look for the solution in contextual problem. Aim: This study aimed to assess the effects of using PBL strategy on academic achievement of Technical Health Nursing Students. Subjects and method: A quasi-experimental design was adopted to carry out this study. The study was carried out at health technical institute at Mansoura city. Convenient sampling technique was used to recruit this study include all students (100) were at second year of health technical institute. Students were located into two groups / 50 students of each group as the following: Traditional method group: includes students at second term in the academic year 2016-2017. Problem based learning method group: includes students in the first term in the next academic year 2017-2018. Results: scores of pretest of students in experimental group who were taught through Problem -based learning method is higher than that of the control group, who were treated by traditional method and there was statistically significant difference between scores of pre and posttest. Conclusion: the main conclusion drawn from the current study is that problem based learning method more effective than traditional method.
