Abstract This audit concluded that no certain written guidelines to be followed in the unite, however it had been found that all the endoscopy steps were in agreement with the Guideline on pediatric GI endoscopy commissioned by the ESGE/ESPGHAN as regards the following: All cases were indicated for UGIE according to the guidelines.Endoscopy was done in presence of a multidisciplinary team consisting of a pediatric anesthetist, pediatric gastroenterologist, and specialized pediatric nurses in complete aseptic conditions with sterile device. Biopsy was taken from all cases of the study even in absence of growth pathology in the endoscopic view.Pre procedure assessment, laboratory tests dietary restriction.No routine use of prophylactic antibiotics either before or after the procedure.All supplies necessary to safe any child experiencing cardiovascular complications during a procedure were readily available in the operating room, The procedure was done under general anesthesia mainly propofol based with routine oxygen administration during the procedures, continuous pulse oximetry and heart rate monitoring at all levels of sedation, and after completion of endoscopic procedures children were monitored for adverse effects of the endoscopy or any complications. They did not agree with the guidelines in the following: Before discharge no specific written or verbal instructions and information were given to the parent and no documentation of Preliminary investigations. |
