Abstract

Coronary artery disease (CAD) is one of the leading causes of disability and death in both men and women all over the world. Recently imaging of coronary arteries could be done by invasive and non-invasive techniques. The invasive imaging techniques particularly selective conventional angiography since its introduction in 1960s remains the corner stone and gold standard in planning and guiding catheter-based and management of significantly stenotic coronary lesions. Moreover, non-invasive CCTA is helpful in assessment of the early stages of CAD. The need for standardization of report terminology for CCTA to improve communication between interpreting and referring physicians lead to evolution of a new report system. The coronary artery disease-reporting and data system (CAD-RADS) is a new standardized method that is used to describe CCTA findings. In addition, it can be used to triage patients with stable or acute chest pain. Compared to prior classifications of CAD that was based on the number of affected vessels, the CAD-RADS provides information on stenosis severity as well. The objective of this study was to propose CAD-RADS as a new standardized method of communication and to evaluate its role in the management of coronary heart disease patients in Mansoura University Hospitals.
