المستخلص The research aimed to identify the effect of the cooperative brainstorming strategy in developing critical thinking skills and solving verbal problems in the units of algebra and Geometry for first preparatory first graders in both algebra and Geometry, The research sample consisted of (80) pupils from the first preparatory first grade, which were divided into two groups One experimental numbered (40) students and the other was a control group of (40) students. Each group was divided into two sub-groups in light of the variable mental capacity, To achieve the goal of the research, the researcher prepared two tests, one to measure critical thinking skills in mathematics, and the other to measure the skills of solving verbal problems in mathematics, and the two tests were applied to the two research groups beforehand to ensure the equality of the two groups, and then to verify the effectiveness of the strategy, and the results resulted in the following: - There is a statistically significant difference at the level of 0.01 between the mean scores of the students of the experimental and control groups in the post-application to test critical thinking skills in mathematics for the benefit of the experimental group students (regardless of the level of mental capacity(. - There is no statistically significant interaction between the teaching method used (cooperative brainstorming, the usual method) and the level of mental capacity (high / low) in the post-application of critical thinking test in mathematics in all sub-skills as well as the total score. - There is a statistically significant difference at the level of 0.01 between the mean scores of the students of the experimental and control groups in the post-application of the verbal problem solving in mathematics and its sub-skills (regardless of the level of mental capacity).- There is no statistically significant interaction between the teaching method used (cooperative brainstorming, the usual method) and the level of mental capacity (high / low) in the post application of verbal problem solving in mathematics in all sub-skills as well as the total score except for the skill to extract data through drawing. In light of these results, the researcher recommended the need to employ cooperative brainstorming within mathematics courses because of its positive impact in providing students with various knowledge and skills. |
