Abstract The heterogeneous photocatalysis using semiconductor nanocrystals is an important process in the field of water treatment since it is a low cost, environmentally friendly, and zero waste technique. In this work, titanate nanostructures (sheets, tubes, and wires) were prepared by simple hydrothermal method. All samples were characterized by X-ray diffraction, transmission electron microscopy, Brunauer–Emmett–Teller surface area analysis, and Zetasizer. The results revealed that tuning the morphology of TiO2 changed the activity of the prepared nanostructures, It was observed that all morphologies showed distinct degradation efficiencies at different pH values, where titanate nanowires achieved the highest photocatalytic activity towards crystal violet dye, reaching 100 % at pH 3 under ultraviolet illumination for 35 min. Nanotubes yielded the highest percentage of degradation at pH 5 and 8 while nanowires were the best morphology at pH 7. Based on these results, it is suggested that the titanate photocatalytic activity can be tuned by tuning the titanate morphology. Notably, RGO-Titanate nanocomposites demonstrated excellent photocatalytic activity toward the degradation of CV dye under UV irradiation and simulate solar light. The photodegradation is remarkably enhanced for all composites comparing with the pure titanate. The best photocactalytic activity reached ” " ~ " ” 97 % by RGO-TNS after 115 min under solar simulated light. |
