Abstract

This experiment was conducting during 2015 and 2016 seasons to investigate the effect of bunches thinning and encourages fruit development through spraying with calcium nitrate and gibberellic acid on fruit dropping, alternate bearing, yield and fruit storability of date palm (Hayany cv.) and to report approach with which alternate bearing is reduced. The experiment carried out at OM-El-Reda Village in a Private Orchard 20 Km west Damietta Governorate, Egypt. Twenty seven palms were chosen in the similar growth and load as uniformly as possible and arranged in a factorial randomized complete block design. Data obtained in this study could be summarized as follows: thinning by leaving 7-9 bunches for the date palm with spraying calcium alone or with gibberellic acid, with preference for thinning by leaving 9 bunches/palm because it achieves an increase in yield more than thinning to 7 bunches/palm and also it gives quality of fruits that approximate the lower level of thinning and more than 11 bunches/palm. It also retards the rutabillity rate of fruits, and this gives an opportunity for good marketing of this variety, as well as achieving annual regularity in bearing of fruits compared to thinning at the level of 11 bunches/palm.
