Abstract

One of the important trends in precision machining is the
development of geometric error identification and compensation
techniques.
The study provides a complete cost-wise flexible geometric error-
compensation technique which is suitable for various CNC machine
tools and more convenient for traditional/old CNC machine tools that
.4
are more exposed to permanent geometric errors that may make them
out of work.
While the main contributing error of the machine’s inaccuracy is
the linear positioning errors of the axes. The study aims to identify
translational positional errors of the axes without the need to in-
. process sensing or laser measurements such as Laser Interferometer
or Double Ball-Bar (DBB) systems that need very time consuming
and complexity for accomplishment of geometric error modelling
process of CNC machine tools.
The estimation of positional errors is based on an assessment of
the target CNC machine tool by sequence of measuring and checking
of cutting tests that were carried out by this machine. Measurement
process was performed by precision co-ordinate measuring machine
(CMM) to determine a travel error in each axis. The analysis of
measurement results be used to model error sources by applying
linear regression and artificial neural networks (ANN), thus
implementation of an adaptive error compensation which is
performed by editing the part program (O-Code).
