Abstract

Bronchogenic carcinoma is a malignant lung tumor characterized by uncontrolled cell growth in tissues of the lung. This growth can spread beyond the lung by the process of metastasis into nearby tissue or other parts of the body. Most cancers that start in the lung, known as primary lung cancers, are carcinomas, The two main types are small-cell lung carcinoma (SCLC) and non-small-cell lung carcinoma (NSCLC).
This was a retrospective study conducted on 95 patients referred to Ain Shams University Hospital (bronchogenic carcinoma clinic - Oncology Department), with a history of primary lung cancer during the period between June 2018 and June 2019. The data collected from patient files included medical history, diagnostic methods, type of treatment and the patient outcome.
One of the main aims of the study is to assess the delay time between the establishment of diagnosis and the start of treatment. Four cases of small cell carcinoma delayed less than 1 month, 44 case of non small cell lung cancer delayed more than 1 month.
A statistically significant positive correlation between delay time and EGOG (Eastern Cooperative Oncology group Performance status)in both small and non small cell lung cancer.
