Abstract

Human well-being relies on the goods and services provided by Earth’s ecosystems such as food, fresh water, climate regulation, pollution regulation, aesthetic and spiritual values. Wetlands are among the most productive ecosystems. They provide many ecosystem services that are vital to human beings such as food, water purification, nutrient cycling, climate regulations, aesthetic, recreational and educational services. Wetlands are transitional zones between terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems that are distinguished by their richness in biodiversity.
