Abstract

In the present healthcare delivery system, nurses are regularly disregarded for the critical job they play in it. Regularly, they are essentially seen as a kind of doctor collaborator. So, the image of the nursing profession needs to be enhanced through proper marketing for their efforts and their roles. The nursing faculties must adopt effective methods to improve the image of nursing and to attract students to combat nursing shortages. This study aimed to develop and validate an external marketing plan for the Faculty of Nursing at Suez Canal University. An exploratory research design used to meet the study aim. Two groups of subjects were included; (496) students of the secondary school at Ismailia city as a random sampling and (33) jury group of experts. Data were collected using two tools; self￾administrated questionnaire sheet composed of four parts as the following Personal data, Students‟ knowledge, Students‟ attitude, and Students‟ suggestions questionnaire sheet; and Opinionnaire sheet composed of two parts: Personal data and Validity of the proposed external marketing plan. The result revealed that less than half (43.2%) of the study secondary students had poor knowledge and more than half (55.6%) of them had a negative attitude toward nursing education. There was a positive statistically significant association between the study students‟ knowledge and their attitude toward the nursing education. The great majority of jury group has expressed their agreement about all items of the marketing plan. The study recommended that training courses must be held for the faculty members on how to market the nursing profession in a positive and effective way; marketing concepts must be integrated into university nursing curricula to increase student awareness about marketing; a marketing unit needs to be established within the College.
